The Rotary Club of Totnes, Canoe-Adventures (in conjunction with Boatwright Ian Bowles) and Dart Totnes  Amateur Rowing Club present the second annual River Festival on the River Dart at Longmarsh, raising money for charities chosen by Rotary (Dart Sailability, ShelterBox, Totnes Caring and Totnes Children’s Centre) and those nominated by participating crews.

Crews and spectators are encouraged to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Water Dragon by wearing fancy dress with a Dragon theme. Longmarsh will be given over to stalls and fair-ground attractions – refreshments (to eat and drink) will be served and side-shows will ensure fun for everyone. The community event will end with presentations of prizes by a local celebrity.

What is a Longbow Canoe?

A Longbow Canoe measures 10 metres and is a narrow boat, crewed by 10 sponsored volunteers. A qualified steersman from Canoe Adventures steers the boat making sure that the crew has fun while remaining safe on the water.

What is Longbow Canoe racing?

Longbow Canoes offer the experience of paddling or racing in estuary waters. A Longbow Canoe follows the same pattern as the ancient dug-out, birch-clad vessels used since pre-history to explore, hunt and trade along rivers and waterways.
